Outpatient Services

We offer child, adolescent and adult outpatient therapy services at many Maine Behavioral Healthcare offices, including Springvale, Biddeford, Greater Portland, Brunswick, Norway, Damariscotta, Rockland and Belfast.

Outpatient treatment programs help individuals avoid psychiatric hospitalization or facilitate the transition from hospital care back to the community. Typical diagnoses treated include co-occurring substance use and mental illness, anxiety, psychotic or depressive disorders, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADD/ADHD), and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Our outpatient services include individual and couples therapy, support and educational groups, medication management, and consultation to primary care physicians and other healthcare providers.

Maine Medical Center, our partner hospital in Portland, provides partial-day services for adults who are too ill to attend traditional outpatient therapy, but do not require the 24-hour treatment of an inpatient psychiatric hospital. These programs often help patients avoid psychiatric hospitalization, and also make a smooth transition back into the community following a psychiatric hospitalization.

These structured, partial-day programs feature two treatment tracks:

for adults who experience chronic and severe mental illness

for adults who have co-occurring chemical dependency
