Geriatric Care
It is estimated that by 2030, Maine will have the second highest percentage of people aged 65 and older in the United States. At Maine Medical Center, our goal to improve the health, wellness and quality of life for older adults in the communities we serve. Our compassionate services are provided by specially-trained care team members with experience in meeting the special needs of older adult.
Community Partnerships
We all need supportive relationships and this is especially true as we age. Local geriatric care facilities, community programs and support groups provide important resources that help older adults age with dignity and maintain community connections.
Maine Medical Center partners with Southern Maine Agency on Aging, the Alzheimer’s Association and Partnership for Healthy Aging to offer educational programs and support groups designed to help older adults and their families cope with issues related to aging.
Maine Medical Center geriatric specialists also provide care onsite in local nursing homes and assisted living facilities. This care coordination and clinical oversight helps older adults transition from one health care setting to another - such as an acute hospitalization to a skilled nursing facility. In addition to nursing home care and assisted living care, our geriatricians also see patients at New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland.
