Expert Care, Close to Home

Maine Behavioral Healthcare is proud to be part of the MaineHealth state-wide strategy for addressing the opioid epidemic. Through our regional treatment model we provide care at convenient locations across Southern Maine and in the Mid Coast area.

Opioid Use Disorder (OUD)

OUD is a chronic brain disease that may affect anyone. It can be treated through proven methods, like our integrated medication assisted treatment (IMAT) program. Learn more about OUD and IMAT.

The goal of IMAT is to improve the quality of life of individuals with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). Buprenorphine is proven to help with the treatment of OUD since it is safe, encourages treatment compliance and reduces possibilities for abuse and overdose. It is the intent of the practices within the MaineHealth system, including Maine Behavioral Healthcare to provide eligible patients comprehensive medication and therapy services to help in recovery from substance use disorders, develop skills to sustain recovery, improve mental health and physical and functional wellbeing.

Only physicians qualified under Drug Addiction Treatment Act (DATA) of 2000, who have completed Drug Enforcement Agency/Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (DEA/SAMHSA) training and hold DEA waivers shall prescribe buprenorphine in any treatment setting.

IMAT supports patients recovering from OUD and offers individualized treatment that may include the following services:

  1. Medically supervised induction and ongoing IMAT.
  2. Intensive Outpatient Programming (a minimum of 3 hours of group treatment for a minimum of 3 days/week).
  3. Educational services including education about buprenorphine and health maintenance.
  4. Counseling services including individual and group therapy addressing issues pertaining to addiction.
  5. Case management.

The “hub and spoke” treatment model is led by Maine Behavioral Healthcare, which partners with primary care providers to provide Integrated Medication Assisted Treatment (IMAT).

You can get treatment throughout locations throughout the MaineHealth system of care. View a list of IMAT locations near you.

Maine Behavioral Healthcare has two hubs in Southern Maine offering Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP), IMAT and individual and group treatment.
