Psychiatric Care

Since 1963, the Maine Medical Center (MMC) Department of Psychiatry has provided compassionate and respectful psychiatric care on both an outpatient and inpatient basis. Our goal is to honor the dignity, privacy and recovery needs of each individual.

We are part of the MaineHealth system of care which includes Maine Behavioral Healthcare. This partnership with a wide network of expert behavioral health providers allows us to offer the most complete array of psychiatric treatment, physician-training, and medical-research programs north of Boston.

Our multidisciplinary team includes board-certified psychiatrists, licensed clinicians and other care providers who work collaboratively to support people in our community who are experiencing behavioral health challenges, illnesses and co-occurring disorders.Services include:

MMC’s affiliations with national and regional universities and colleges allows psychiatric residents, fellows, nurse practitioners, nurses, psychologists, social workers, and medical students to participate in treatment and care delivery in a dynamic educational environment. Our association with the Tufts University School of Medicine allows us to play a significant role in the psychiatric education of Tufts medical students who are enrolled in the Maine Track of the Tufts University School of Medicine. The Department of Psychiatry offers Accreditation Council certified Graduate Medical Education for four years of postgraduate training through the General Psychiatry Residency Program, as well as a two-year Child and Adolescent Fellowship Training Program.
