What is medical oncology?

Medical oncology is a critical component in modern cancer care. Oncologists drive care plan development—managing therapies as well as coordinating care among other cancer specialists who focus on prevention, treatment and clinical trials.

What is hematology?

Hematologists are specifically trained in the diagnosis and treatment of blood disorders. This includes conditions affecting red and white blood cells, platelets, lymph nodes, bone marrow, blood vessels, and the spleen.

Seamless Care Coordination and Support

MaineHealth Cancer Care provides radiation therapy, IV therapy, and blood disorder services. We also maintain close communication with your primary care provider and extended care team. Our practice coordinates needed care at other cancer care locations, including Portland, Scarborough, Sanford and Bath. Cancer support services also include clinical patient navigators, financial patient navigators and social workers.

Oncology Patient Financial Navigators

Many patients tell us they are worried about how much their treatment will cost and how they will pay for it. MaineHealth Oncology Patient Financial Navigators can help answer your insurance questions, explain your benefits, and set up a payment plan for out of-pocket costs. Learn more about this free service or call 207-661-0161 or 207-661-0160 to speak with one of our Oncology Patient Financial Navigators.
