The Family Birthplace at Stephens Memorial Hospital
The birth of a child is a precious moment for the mother and a joyous event shared by the entire family. Our Family Birthplace is here to guide and support moms and family members through every stage of childbirth, from pregnancy through delivery and into parenthood.
We understand that comfort is as important as our state-of-the-art facilities and offer a top-notch team that includes board-certified doctors and a caring and compassionate nursing staff.
Western Maine OBGYN is bringing "Centering" to Prenatal (pregnancy) care. This is an exciting model of pregnancy care that will help specifically address the issues of our patients and our community.
How Centering Works: Centering group prenatal care follows the recommended schedule of 10 prenatal visits, of which 6 are centering visits 90 minutes to two hours long - giving women 10x more time with their provider. Moms engage in their care by taking their own weight and blood pressure and recording their own health data. This includes private time with their provider for belly check and addressing personal concerns.
CenteringPregnancy® brings 8-10 women all due at the same time together for their care. Providing care in this way allows moms and providers to relax and get to know each other on a much deeper and meaningful level. Members of the group form lasting friendships and are connected in ways not possible in traditional care.
For more information about this exciting program, talk to your provider.
Stephens Memorial Hospital is proud to partner with Maine Medical Center and the Tufts University School of Medicine as a rural practice site for the "Maine Track" program. As a department of Stephens Memorial Hospital, Western Maine Obstetrics and Gynecology participates in this program and has medical students working with our physicians during their clinical rotation.
