Specializing in the Care of Patients in the Hospital
Stephens Memorial Hospital is excited to announce that Hospital Medicine Program which started in September 2013 for Medical/Surgical and Special Care Unit patients. When you are admitted to the hospital, hospitalists will oversee your care.
The hospitalist will talk with you and your family about your care. Because they are always available, hospitalists can explain and act on your tests more quickly. After you are released from the hospital, your primary care doctor will take over your care. They will oversee any needed follow-up visits, prescriptions and tests.

Who is my doctor while I’m in the hospital?
A hospitalist will care for you while you are in the hospital. When you are discharged the hospitalist will contact your primary care doctor to update them on the care you received when you were in the hospital.

Our hospitalists are Maine Medical Center doctors and Oxford Hills Internal Medicine doctors.
Will all the hospitalists know about my care?
Yes. Each day the hospitalist caring for you will meet with you to discuss your care. This information sharing helps provide the best treatment for you.
Can I ask questions?
Please do! Ask your hospitalist to explain anything you do not understand. You and your family are encouraged to be involved in your care.
Who will the hospitalist take care of in the hospital?
The hospitalist will care for patients who are admitted to the hospital for medical problems. Pediatricians, obstetricians, and surgeons will care for their patients when they are in the hospital.
