Acute sinusitis can last up to a month. It often is from a cold or allergy. Chronic sinusitis can last for three months or more. It may be a sinus infection and require antibiotics.

Sinusitis diagnosis and treatment

A routine exam by your healthcare provider can help diagnose you. Your provider will look at your nose and face and ask about your symptoms. Sometimes you may need imaging tests.

Sinusitis treatment depends on your symptoms.. Your healthcare provider may suggest pain relievers and decongestants. Sometimes heating pads, vaporizers and saline sprays may help.  A small subset of people with sinusitis symptoms might need antibiotics to treat their problem.
