Sports Medicine Fellowship

The Maine Medical Center Sports Medicine Fellowship is an ACGME accredited primary care sports medicine fellowship open to graduates of accredited programs in Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine. Teaching and consulting faculty are drawn from Maine Medical Center and Maine Medical Partners – Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.

The fellowship consists of a one year track. Primary clinical responsibilities are through the MMC Sports Medicine Clinic, Maine Medical Partners – Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Clinic and specialty clinics. Training room, team, and sideline experiences are provided at several area colleges and universities, as well as local and regional high schools.

Sports Medicine Fellows are heavily involved in the education of MMC primary care residents as well as Tufts University medical students. In addition, the fellows have ample opportunity to provide educational outreach in sports medicine to community audiences. Each fellow is expected to produce publishable work and actively participate in research efforts of the program. Involvement in the American College of Sports Medicine and American Medical Society for Sports Medicine is encouraged.

The mission of the MMC Sports Medicine Fellowship is to provide the highest quality educational environment possible for the post graduate training of primary care physicians in the principles and practice of sports medicine.
