Mission

Our mission is to train compassionate, skilled physicians dedicated to delivering exceptional endocrine care. We are committed to preparing fellows to meet the complex needs of a diverse and aging population through evidence-based, patient-centered practice.

Our program emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, equipping fellows to work effectively alongside primary care providers, specialists and allied health professionals in delivering coordinated, comprehensive care. Through rigorous clinical training, academic scholarship and community engagement, we aim to develop fellows into expert clinicians, educators, researchers and advocates who serve as trusted leaders in their communities and beyond.

Objectives

Graduates will be competent clinicians with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to enter autonomous practice. Our graduates will be trained to serve as community- or academic-based endocrinologists with subspecialty expertise. Specific objectives used to achieve our mission include:

  • Graduates will receive dedicated training in the care of geriatric and rural populations, reflecting the unique demographics of our state. Didactics will emphasize evidence-based decision making, critical reviews of literature, and team-based and inter-professional approaches to care of patients with endocrinological disorders and diabetes.
  • Graduates will be competent in the performance of essential procedures; thyroid ultrasound and fine needle aspiration biopsy, review/interpretation of bone densitometry studies and review/interpretation of endocrine dynamic /provocative testing. Simulation training will be employed to emphasize safe acquisition of procedure skills.
  • Fellows will work to innovate the care delivery they participate in through quality improvement projects and mentored research with the goal of sharing their work with the medical community at large and advancing the field of endocrinology and diabetes care.
  • Fellows will participate in the education of residents and medical students to foster the academic environment of the fellowship and encourage future interest in the field.
