Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship

The Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at Maine Medical Center (MMC) is a three-year program that provides comprehensive training across the spectrum of cardiovascular disease. Our program began in the 1950s and remains the only cardiovascular medicine fellowship program in the state. As the largest referral center in Northern New England, our clinical volume and case complexity ensure a robust training environment. Our fellows have gone on to positions of their choice throughout the country. Our program and institution emphasize the importance of patient centered care, a healthy learning environment, faculty mentorship, and scholarly activity. The aims of the Cardiovascular Fellowship Program at Maine Medical Center are to:

  • Train outstanding clinical cardiologists prepared to practice in various settings (academic practice, community based practice).
  • Provide meaningful scholarly experiences (clinical and population research, translational research, quality improvement, education, leadership).

Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI)

The MMC Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship is committed to fostering a collaborative, respectful and equitable environment where our learners, faculty, and teams can thrive in an ever-changing global community. This program does not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender (identity), age, religion, language, ability/disability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, military status, geographic region, country of origin, or any other applicable protected status. We are committed to recruiting diverse fellows and faculty through:

  • A holistic review of application is used during recruitment with emphasis on the “distance traveled” and unique experiences that enrich the academic environment. Candidates will not be screened for aforementioned status. Pictures of candidates will be unavailable to reviewers during the screening of applicants.
  • Prior to the interview season, the program director will emphasize the importance of a diverse training environment to both Fellows and Faculty. Faculty will be coached to avoid questions that could trigger implicit bias during the interview season.
  • The Cardiology Fellowship program will advocate for the recruitment of diverse faculty by the Cardiac Service Line at MMC.
