Home Improvement - Why MaineHealth Maine Medical Center?MaineHealth Maine Medical Center offers a uniquely balanced internal medicine residency experience that combines the resources of a large tertiary academic center with the close-knit culture of a supportive community program. As Maine’s only internal medicine residency, the program provides broad exposure to complex pathology, rural and community medicine, refugee and international health, and longitudinal patient care. Additionally, strong mentorship, individualized career development, and opportunities in medical education, research, hospital medicine, and fellowship preparation. The program’s emphasis on patient-centered care, resident wellness, and service to underserved populations creates an environment that fosters both clinical excellence and personal growth.

- Why MaineHealth Maine Medical Center? After completing a fourth-year sub-internship at Maine Medical Center, I felt genuinely welcomed and supported by everyone I worked with. The residents and attendings fostered a collaborative environment and demonstrated a strong commitment to teaching. I was also drawn to the program’s close-knit culture and approachable size. Having attended medical school in Maine, I developed a personal connection to the area and hope to continue my training in Portland. Its balance of a vibrant small-city atmosphere, access to beautiful coastal surroundings, and excellent food scene makes it an ideal place to live and train.

- Why MaineHealth Maine Medical Center?I had the opportunity to rotate at Maine Medical Center during my 4th year of medical school, and I immediately felt at home. The people of Portland were so welcoming, and the hospital community reflected that same warmth and collaboration. I was struck by the strong sense of teamwork among the attending and resident physicians, who were not only exceptional teachers, but also deeply committed to patient-centered care. Maine Medical’s reputation for high-quality, compassionate care was evident, and I know it’s an ideal environment to grow as a physician. Having lived in New England for the past 11 years, I’m eager to continue serving this community, caring for the people of Maine (and enjoying a lobster roll or two in the summer)!

- Why MaineHealth Maine Medical Center?MMC seems like a place where residents genuinely enjoy being there and truly support one another. I’ve loved getting a glimpse of that on IG and can’t wait to be part of that culture. Being in Portland by the water is another big draw for me. On top of that, the program offers strong training with exposure to a wide range of patient populations, including rural and refugee communities, along with research support and in-house fellowships. I think it will provide a great foundation for whatever path I choose after graduation.
