Referring Patients to the Maine Tobacco HelpLine

Referring patients to the Maine Tobacco HelpLine is a reliable and evidence-based treatment option for busy health care professionals. This video follows one patient's experience with the HelpLine.

MaineHealth Center for Tobacco Independence

The MaineHealth Center for Tobacco Independence (CTI) promotes evidence-based tobacco treatment through consultation and technical assistance for providers and clinical staff.  CTI works with MaineHealth hospitals and practices to integrate referrals to the Maine Tobacco HelpLine into electronic health records. The goal is to increase the number of patients who are screened for tobacco use and offered evidence-based tobacco treatment services.

Embedding tobacco treatment referrals into the electronic health record increases referrals to evidence-based tobacco treatment and improves the quality of referrals when paired with onsite-training, performance feedback and technical assistance. CTI conducts ongoing performance improvement activities to drive tobacco intervention improvements across the MaineHealth system.

The QuitLink

The Maine Tobacco HelpLine accepts provider-assisted referrals, or patients self-refer from The QuitLink.
