What is Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy?
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a type of heart disease that affects the heart muscle and can lead to irregular heart rhythms and heart failure. Our specialists treat patients in which the heart’s ventricular walls have become excessively thick, making it difficult for the heart to pump out blood.
Symptoms can include shortness of breath, chest pain, palpitations, fainting, and—less commonly—sudden cardiac death. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common genetic heart condition.
