Cardiac Valve Program
The MaineHealth Cardiac Valve Program is a partnership of imaging cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, and cardiac surgeons who evaluate and treat patients with heart valve conditions. They perform some of the most complex and advanced surgical and non-surgical procedures currently available.
Our comprehensive program offers progressive options in traditional open heart surgery as well as minimally-invasive procedures that give new hope to patients who otherwise would not be candidates for surgery. The cardiac valve team at Maine Medical Center has made great advances in two procedures in particular:
- Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) – First hospital in the state to provide this treatment for severe aortic stenosis
- MitraClip® repair – One of the only hospitals in New England participating in a national clinical trial to test a minimally invasive approach for treating mitral valve regurgitation
