Maine Medical Center’s largest modernization and replacement project in history is approaching completion with the planned opening of the Malone Family Tower (MFT) in late spring/early summer 2024.
- The seven-floor, 300,000-square-foot MFT will transform how MMC delivers care and how patients access the medical campus, with quick, easy entry right off Congress Street.
- The MFT will have 96 private patient rooms on three floors, a 40-bed pre/post operation area and 19 new procedure rooms.
- This building will be the new home for MMC’s cardiac procedures – catheterization, electrophysiology and cardiothoracic surgery – as well as vascular and robotic surgeries.
- The MFT is the largest component and culmination of MMC’s Master Facilities Plan that also included the addition of two floors on the Coulombe Family Tower (opened in 2019), construction of our care team member garage (2020), expanded visitor parking (2019) and the new medical office building housing ear, nose & throat; neuroscience and vascular surgery practices in Scarborough (2021).
Altogether, the $588.9 million Master Facilities Plan will create 160 new private patient rooms and add 19 procedure rooms for surgeries and other complex treatments. The completed facilities have already begun benefiting patients near and far. The placement of the Sisters Heliport on the same building housing the emergency department has shaved critical time from the trips trauma patients take to get emergency treatment. And, the additional patient rooms in the Coulombe Family Tower provided the flexibility vital to MMC’s pandemic response.
