Our dedicated onboarding team makes career transitions as smooth as possible for physicians and APPs.

• Pre-boarding and onboarding specialists work with you before your first day and throughout your early months, preparing you with everything you need for a confident entry.
• A comprehensive orientation introduces you to the MaineHealth organization, clinical workflows and the communities we serve.
• A buddy program pairs each new physician/APP with an experienced colleague who offers guidance, cultural orientation and operational tips. Through regular check-ins, your buddy helps you build connections and acclimate successfully.
• A dedicated new provider resources website gives you easy access to policies, benefits summaries, retirement planning resources, directories, org charts and other tools to help you settle in with clarity and confidence.

Governance & operational support

Practice within a governance system built for transparency and efficiency.

Education & lifelong learning

As a learning health system, medical education is woven into everything we do—from training the next generation of providers to supporting the continuing development of our current care teams.

MaineHealth undergraduate, graduate, APP and continuing medical education

• MaineHealth has a history of excellence in graduate medical education with 17 ACGME-accredited residency programs and 19 ACGME-accredited fellowship programs.
• We offer over 350 APP clinical rotations each year, supporting APP learners through clinical mentorship and educational pathways in both rural and urban settings.
• Care team members have access to a robust interprofessional continuing education (IPCE) program designed to improve interprofessional collaborative practice.
• There are opportunities to:
  • Pursue residency/fellowship faculty appointments
  • Serve as a clinical preceptor or educator
  • Deliver didactic lectures for the Tufts University School of Medicine (TUSM) MaineHealth Maine Track Program

MaineHealth Institute for Teaching Excellence (MITE)

MITE is a community of educators dedicated to excellence in teaching health professionals. Through MITE, physicians and APPs can advance their knowledge of medical education curriculum development, program evaluation, teaching methods, learner assessment and scholarship. MaineHealth Hannaford Center for Safety, Innovation & Simulation

The Hannaford Center for Safety, Innovation & Simulation offers high-tech simulation tools and environments for teaching new medical techniques and skills through repeated practice and review.

MaineHealth Library & Learning Commons delivers technical and content expertise for patient care, education and research.

Mentorship & leadership development

Research & innovation

The MaineHealth Institute for Research (MHIR) drives a broad spectrum of foundational, translational, clinical and population health research. Provider research opportunities, include:

• Translational research: Advance discoveries from bench to bedside, directly impacting patient care
• Clinical trials: Contribute to 250+ annual Phase I–IV clinical trials or launch investigator-initiated studies with institutional support
• Equity and community-engaged research: Partner with local communities to address health disparities and social determinants of health

MaineHealth Innovation programs are designed to provide connections, education and funding for MaineHealth innovators. As a core value of MaineHealth, innovation creates new ways of thinking and collaborating to tackle the most complex challenges in health care. 

Our innovation team supports care team members across the system through unique programming, funding opportunities and strategic partnerships from ideas to implementation. Recent innovations include AI-assisted triage tools, a novel cancer diagnostic blood kit, a portable negative pressure tent for infection prevention, a robotic clot retriever and more.

MaineHealth Center for Health Improvement

The MaineHealth Center for Health Improvement (CHI) was founded in 1997 to support the MaineHealth vision of “working together so our communities are the healthiest in America." Since then, MaineHealth has invested more than $1.8 billion in community programs and services. 

CHI implements evidence-based, data-driven, community-informed strategies to improve population health in the communities we serve. Each MaineHealth community has a dedicated community health director and team that manages local community health resources and programs in partnership with MaineHealth clinicians, leaders and local community groups and organizations.

MaineHealth Behavioral Health

MaineHealth Behavioral Health provides behavioral health services throughout the MaineHealth system. Services include counseling and therapy, inpatient care, community-based substance use disorder treatment programs, and integrated care at MaineHealth primary care practices. Our integration program helps MaineHealth patients get effective and efficient care for mental and behavioral health conditions when and where they need it.
