Meet Elia | MaineHealth Barbara Bush Children's Hospital

A young girl in a pink dress standing in a room with her arms crossed and a big smile on her face

While Elia spent time in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at MaineHealth Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital (MHBBCH) at birth, it wasn’t until she was two and a half months that her pediatrician became concerned about her low weight and referred her for admission at MHBBCH.

Genetic testing revealed that Elia has mosaic Turner syndrome, but with support from the MHBBCH complex care program, outpatient therapy, and her big sister, Elia is thriving! Her mom, Mariya, explains that only 1-2% of babies with mosaic Turner syndrome make it to a live birth: “We knew she was already a blessing, but now she is a true miracle, or as I like to say, an angel on earth.”
