The Joint Commission seal of approval is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality. Our hospital is committed to meeting the Joint Commission's established performance standards. Accreditation helps our patient care team continually improve its performance and demonstrate accountability in the rapidly changing healthcare field.

Mid Coast Hospital is recognized as a Magnet® facility by the American Nurses Credentialing Center for exceptional nursing and patient care, the highest level of recognition that nursing services can achieve. The American Nurses Credentialing Center awards Magnet status to hospitals that exhibit exemplary patient outcomes and satisfaction, have impressive nurse-to-patient ratios, and attract and retain the best nursing staff.

Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers

The Joint Commission, in conjunction with The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, has recognized Mid Coast Hospital with Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers. The certification demonstrates the hospital's ability to provide the most advanced level of care to stroke patients.

Commission on Cancer Accreditation with Commendation

The comprehensive cancer care program at Mid Coast has received Accreditation with Commendation from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. Receiving care at a CoC-accredited cancer program ensures that a patient will have access to quality care close to home; comprehensive care with state-of-the-art services and equipment; a multi-specialty team approach to coordinate the best treatment options available; information about cancer clinical trials and new treatment options; access to cancer-related information, education and support; ongoing monitoring and improvement of care, and lifelong patient follow-up through a cancer registry that collects data on type and stage of cancers and treatment results.

US News and World Report – Best Hospitals and Nursing Homes in Maine

Mid Coast Hospital has been recognized as a “Best Regional Hospital” and as one of the two best hospitals in Maine by U.S. News & World Report for 2015-16. The annual U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients. Mid Coast Senior Health was recognized as "Best Nursing Home" by U.S. News & World Report for 2018-19. Additionally, Mid Coast Senior Health's Mere Point Long Term Care Community and Bodwell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, were recognized in the 2013 US News and World Report's "Best Nursing Homes" list for being among the highest rated in Maine. The 2013 Best Maine Nursing Homes list is comprised of those facilities with a rating of five (5) stars from the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for their overall performance in health inspections, nurse staffing, and quality of medical care.

International Board Certified Lactation Consultants Care Award

Mid Coast Hospital has received the IBCLC Care Award in recognition for staffing International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) and providing a high-quality lactation program for families. The hospital provides breastfeeding training for medical staff that cares for new families and helps to protect, promote, and support breastfeeding.

Maine Tobacco-Free Hospital Network Gold Star Standards of Excellence

As part of the hospital's continued effort to promote a tobacco-free lifestyle, Mid Coast was recognized at the Platinum level by the Maine Tobacco-free Hospital Network in 2018. The Gold Star Standards of Excellence program is an opportunity for hospitals to be recognized for meeting at least six of ten evidence based strategies, including adopting a tobacco-free campus policy, providing readily available tobacco treatment for staff and patients, and refusing any funds from the tobacco industry.

Maine State Employee Health Commission Preferred Provider

For its consistent high marks in quality, patient safety, and clinical experience, the hospital is just one of five hospitals in Maine selected by the Maine State Employee Health Commission as a "Preferred Tier 1 Hospital" for State employees to receive care.
