A Hospital Safety Score 2021

MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital received an “A” grade in the fall 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing our achievements protecting patients from errors, injuries, accidents and infections. This rating demonstrates how focused our care team is on providing a safe place for patients to come to for their health care. The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization committed to health care quality and safety. The Safety Grade is updated every six months. It is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospitals’ prevention of medical errors and other harms to patients in their care. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.


 

Leapfrog Top Hospital 2021

MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital was one of 23 rural hospitals given the prestigious Leapfrog Top Rural Hospital Award in 2021. Given annually by the Leapfrog Group, the award honors hospital performance under national standards of safety, quality and efficiency. The group represents many of the country’s largest corporations and public agencies that buy health benefits. The hospital’s performance was measured through standards for complex, high-risk procedures, staffing standards, implementation of procedures to prevent medication errors, mortality rates for certain common procedures, infection rates and value. National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Silver Award

Safe Sleep Certification

MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital wasw recognized by the National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program at the silver level for their commitment to best practices in promoting infant safe sleep. The National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program was created by Cribs for Kids, the only national infant safe sleep organization. Based in Pittsburgh, Cribs for kids is dedicated to preventing infant sleep-related deaths due to accidental suffocation. As nationally certified Safe Sleep Hospitals, MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital is recognized for following the safe sleep guidelines recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and training care team members and family caregivers. An American Stroke Association "Get with the Guidelines" Gold Plus Award Logo

Stroke Honor Roll Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award

MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines® Target: Stroke Honor Roll Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence. MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital earned the award by meeting specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients at a set level for a designated period. These measures include evaluation of the proper use of medications and other stroke treatments aligned with the most up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines with the goal of speeding recovery and reducing death and disability for stroke patients. AFIB Gold Quality Achievement Award

MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital has received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-AFIB Gold Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association guidelines for the management of patients with atrial fibrillation. MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital earned the award for meeting specific quality achievement measures at a set level for a designated period. These measures include providing appropriate medications and aggressive risk reduction therapies to prevent stroke, stabilize the heart rate and rhythm and treat additional heart disease. The Joint Commission accreditation is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards. To earn and maintain The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™, an organization must undergo an on-site survey by a Joint Commission survey team at least every three years.

American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR)

MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital pulmonary rehabilitation services received full recertification by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) in 2021. MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital was recognized for its commitment to providing and improving the quality of life by enhancing high quality standards of care. AACVPR Program Certification is valid for three years.


American Diabetes Association

American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Certificate

The prestigious American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Certificate for a quality diabetes self-management education program was awarded to the MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital Diabetes and Nutrition Care Center program. The program recognition is valid for four years through 2019 and has been continuously awarded since 2003. Vein Center accreditation by IAC

MaineHealth Surgical Care Rockport and MaineHealth Wound Care Rockport were granted accreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) in Vein Center in the area of Superficial Venous Treatment and Management in June 2017. MaineHealth Surgical Care Rockport and MaineHealth Wound Care Rockport are the first in Maine to receive this accreditation. Learn more about the IAC.
