Our group programs provide support, education, and resources for a variety of health conditions. Programs are free and open to all community members. You do not need a referral.

Bright Bodies is a 12‑week, family‑based healthy lifestyle program for children and teens ages 6–17 who have overweight or obesity. The program helps children and caregivers build healthy habits around eating, physical activity, and self‑confidence, while strengthening family support.

  • Location: In-person programs in Norway and South Portland, virtual and hybrid options are also available.
  • Cost: Free. Insurance is not required.

Living Well with Diabetes  is a 6‑week program for adults with type 2 diabetes. Participants learn practical skills for managing diabetes and receive support from others with similar experiences. 

National Diabetes Prevention Program is a year‑long, CDC‑recognized program that helps people prevent or delay type 2 diabetes by building healthy habits. Participants receive coaching and support focused on healthy eating, physical activity and lasting lifestyle changes.

MaineHealth Food is Medicine (FIM) programs provide healthy food and nutrition support as part of health care to help prevent or manage disease and advance health equity. Programs may include meals, groceries, meal kits or fresh fruits and vegetables to support health and well-being. 

FIM programs are available in multiple locations across the MaineHealth system:

MaineHealth Franklin Hospital Food is Medicine: A 1‑year lifestyle and nutrition program for adults with chronic health conditions who have difficulty accessing healthy food. Participants receive free healthy meals, cooking classes, nutrition education, and support from others in the program to help manage their health and improve access to healthy food. 

MaineHealth Stephens Hospital Food is Medicine: A community‑based program for adults with prediabetes or at risk for type 2 diabetes who have difficulty accessing healthy food. The program combines diabetes prevention education, cooking classes, access to healthy food and support from others in the program.

MaineHealth Mid Coast Hospital Food is Medicine: A 15‑week, in‑person program for adults with chronic health conditions who have limited access to healthy food. The program combines education about managing chronic health conditions, cooking and nutrition classes, weekly healthy food supplies, and support from others in the program to help build skills for long‑term health.

A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns about Falls is a proven program that helps older adults reduce their risk of falls. Through group discussions, goal setting, and gentle exercises, participants build confidence, improve balance and strength, and learn ways to stay safe and active.
