Guidelines for MaineHealth philanthropic giving and community sponsorship
As a large not-for-profit health system and major employer, one way that MaineHealth supports its vision of “working together so our communities are the healthiest in America” by providing modest financial support for nonprofit community partners that align with our vision, mission and values.
To help us maximize our support for community partners, we ask that each requesting organization submit no more than one comprehensive sponsorship request annually. This single request should include all events, activities, programs or sponsorship opportunities for which you would like to be considered during the upcoming year.
MaineHealth uses the following guidelines when considering financial requests
- Requests must align with the MaineHealth mission, vision, values and/or strategic priorities.
- Promotes growth of strategic relationships
- Preference given to organizations and initiatives in which one or more of our care team members are engaged as volunteers.
- Preference given to organizations and initiatives that represent our local communities, inclusive of those that are underrepresented
- Preference is given to proposals that support improved health outcomes for the communities we serve in Maine and New Hampshire
- Preference is given to proposals that demonstrate positive exposure for the MaineHealth brand
- Will be evaluated for return on investment
- Sponsorships and contributions are limited to organizations that have a current 501 © 3 not-for-profit tax exempt status under IRS code Section 170, or be a governmental agency or department, or a public educational institution.
MaineHealth does not fund
- Organizations that have a written policy of discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin; age, disability, genetic information, military or protected veteran status, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression
- Religious or anti-religious organizations or activities (Note: MaineHealth may consider proposals from organizations that have religious affiliations as long as they meet the criteria above.)
- Institutions that promote violence or discrimination
- Political institutions or labor organizations or campaigns
- For-profit businesses
- Organizations whose primary mission is animal welfare
- Requests that benefit an individual or family
Requests for support must be made through the application form on this page. A formal review process will take place monthly, and requests must be made at least 6 weeks in advance of the due date. MaineHealth reserves the right to consider submissions that fall outside of these guidelines.
