Didactic & Seminar Curriculum

With broad-based input from residents and other staff, fine-tuning of the curriculum is an ongoing process. The bulk of the didactics are aggregated on Tuesdays. During this protected didactic day, residents are free from clinical duties and are expected to attend lectures and seminars. The day begins with department Grand Rounds at 8:00 AM. Following this, junior residents have seminars in Psychotherapy, Psychopathology, and Psychopharmacology. Senior residents have a more in-depth Psychotherapy Seminar, followed by a Reading Seminar which deals with topics as diverse as neuroscience, psychoanalytic theory, and issues in gay and lesbian development. The afternoon schedule includes journal club and/or ethics rounds, as well as residency meeting and T-group.

A number of other seminars and conferences are scheduled throughout the week. The Division of Child Psychiatry has its own extensive program of seminars on child development and psychopathology tailored specifically for general psychiatry residents and for the child psychiatry fellows.

Other seminars meeting at times other than Tuesday include:

  • Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy Group Supervision
  • Advanced Psychopharmacology
  • Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Group Supervision
