Fellow Wellbeing | Nephrology Fellowship

Our program places a strong emphasis on fellow well-being, recognizing that personal health is essential to professional growth. We foster a supportive and collegial environment that prioritizes open communication, work-life integration, and mental health. Fellows benefit from manageable clinical workloads, protected time for academic development, and access to comprehensive wellness resources.

  • Social activities: we prioritize community-building and connection through regular social events, including:
    • Welcome BBQ Picnic – July
    • Fall Hike – October
    • Annual Winter Bowling Party – December/January
    • Spring Potluck – April
  • Monthly meetings for check-ins and program feedback
  • Wellness half-days for medical and personal appointments
  • Work-life integration. Our program is intentionally designed to promote balance and sustainability:
    • Patient cap: 10 in the first year and 15 in the second year.
    • 2+2 model (2 weeks inpatient, 2 weeks outpatient) in the first year. 1+ 3 model in the second year
    • No clinic responsibilities while on inpatient service
    • Dedicated night float with no daytime duties.
    • Three golden weekends per month
  • Scheduled Time off before medicine boards, if applicable.
  • Open door policy
  • Deliberate and structured approach to coaching and mentorship, with targeted effort to promote work-life balance and mitigate burnout
  • GME-sponsored Resident/Fellows Appreciation Week
