Clinical Rotations

The clinical experience offers our fellows a broad range of experiences.

The following rotations/experiences occur at Maine Medical Center:

  • Inpatient palliative medicine consult service
  • Inpatient, outpatient and home-based pediatric palliative medicine
  • Ambulatory and telehealth palliative medicine consultations
  • Geriatric and long-term care experiences
  • Clinical Ethics
  • Oncology with radiation oncology exposure

The following experiences occur at Hospice of Southern Maine:

  • Inpatient Hospice Care
  • Home Hospice care with all members of the interdisciplinary team (nurses, nurses’ aides, social workers, chaplains)

The following experiences occur at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital – Augusta

  • Inpatient consults
  • Ambulatory and telehealth palliative care
  • Inpatient palliative care / hospice unit
  • Long Term Care Unit
  • In-home hospice and palliative care

All fellows also have a one month elective experience that can be spent at any of our participating sites or can be arranged to be done at an alternative site of the fellow’s choice. Fellows have done a variety of experiences including rotating with anesthesia pain, wound care specialists, complementary medicine specialists, radiation oncology, etc.
