Academic Tracks for Residents and Fellows

To provide supplementary educational opportunities for residents and fellows with interest in clinical education, leadership, research and clinical informatics, the Department of Graduate Medical Education offers four academic track programs.

Combining one-on-one mentorship, group educational sessions and self-directed learning, the academic tracks are facilitated around longitudinal cohorts of trainees, developing individualized research and teaching projects.

Academic Tracks

Clinician-Educator and Leadership Track (CELT) for Residents
The goal of the CELT Track is to provide education, teaching opportunities, leadership training and mentorship for residents to become competent clinician-educators during and after GME training. This 24-month track would suit residents who wish to improve quality of post-training placement in academic positions (competitive fellowships, academic faculty and practice leadership roles).

Clinician-Educator and Leadership Track (CELT) for Fellows
An adapted version of the CELT Track for residents, the CELT Track for fellows provides education, teaching opportunities and leadership training that is customized to the time frame and responsibilities of fellow clinicians.

Research Track for Residents

The research track is a 30-month program created for residents who want an enhanced research experience during their GME training, supporting goals of better post-graduate academic placements and fellowship opportunities. This program utilizes resources and mentorship from Maine Medical Center’s Institute for Teach Excellence (MITE), the Maine Health Institute of Research, and the Journal of Maine Medical Center.

Clinical Informatics Track Residents and Fellows

The clinical informatics track is designed for residents and fellows who want an enhanced clinical informatics experience during their GME training to better support post-graduate academic placement and fellowship opportunities. This 18-month program includes mentorship, resources and collaboration with Maine Health’s clinical informatics team.
