From volunteering your time to donating funds, there are many ways you can make a positive impact in your local community.
Funds and Programs
Your gift to the Annual Fund supports the purchase of medical equipment and supplies, quality and safety improvements, patient care, and staff development and training at both LincolnHealth Miles and St. Andrews Campuses. Donations also support charity care which provides funding for those individuals and families in our community who are less fortunate and unable to pay for their care.
The nursing school is located in Damariscotta and utilizes the LincolnHealth Education Center and LincolnHealth hospital facilities for clinical training requirements, as well as distance learning technology which allows students to take courses based at the Auburn campus of CMCC while sitting in a classroom in Damariscotta. This centralized approach allows local students to acquire hands-on experience without the time and expense of traveling.
Funds raised for the Nursing School are used to provide scholarships for deserving students. Every effort is made to ensure that our students succeed in the program.
Help LincolnHealth expand medical education in Maine! Our partnership with the highly-esteemed Tufts University School of Medicine’s Maine Track Program allows us to do just that.
Maine is a federally-designated physician shortage area which means there are more than 3,500 patients for every physician. In the past seven years, Maine hospitals have reported at least 200 physician vacancies at any given time and the shortage is predicted to continue. The number of healthcare providers falls far short of meeting our communities’ needs.
It has also been demonstrated that medical students are more likely to apply for a residency program and then practice medicine where they completed their clinical training. When this program started, 30-40% of the Maine Track students chose to remain in Maine when they graduated. An informal survey of the most recent graduates reported 60% and the ultimate goal is to raise that rate to 75%.
Each year since 2012, two medical students have spent nine months at LincolnHealth. The program includes: access to an excellent and more affordable education for Maine students; the latest and most innovative curriculum, with a focus on team training within multiple disciplines; and a commitment to developing skills for rural healthcare.
As a Maine Track Program site, LincolnHealth is required to provide housing and meals, onsite supervision and support for the students, as well as stipends for the physicians and midwives who must become Tufts affiliate faculty to train, mentor and evaluate students. Your gift will help support our efforts to train the next generation of physicians in Maine.
Please let us know if you have already included LincolnHealth in your estate plan, or if you are considering doing so. There are no dues, no minimum giving levels, just our thanks and the knowledge you are part of a group of people dedicated to making community healthcare a priority.
