NORTH CONWAY, NH – Patients in New Hampshire’s Mount Washington Valley with urgent, but non-life-threatening medical needs will soon no longer need to go to the emergency department to receive same-day care. MaineHealth Urgent Care is scheduled to open on Feb. 2 in the Red Barn Shopping Center at 1976 White Mountain Highway in North Conway, NH. The health center will be open from 8 am – 7 pm seven days a week, offering high-quality, expert care with no appointment necessary.
MaineHealth Urgent Care is intended to ease challenges that patients currently face in accessing quick care for minor illnesses and injuries, particularly during the busy summer and winter tourist seasons. Patients may either walk in without an appointment or reserve a place in line and complete their registration before they arrive.
Imaging and laboratory services will also be available at the health center, and patient medical records will be fully integrated into the MaineHealth system, allowing for seamless care coordination with both MaineHealth specialists and primary care teams.
“MaineHealth wants to ensure our patients can access the right care at the right place at the right time,” said Dr. Alicia Faller, the medical director for MaineHealth Urgent Care. “Urgent care centers provide timely care when patients don’t have immediate access to their primary care provider but don’t need the specialized services of an emergency department.”
Since emergency medical providers must prioritize patients based on the severity of their condition, those with non-life-threatening illnesses or injuries such as minor fractures, sprains, cuts requiring stitches, flu symptoms and infections often receive faster treatment in the urgent care setting. Urgent care appointments also cost less than emergency room visits.
“If MaineHealth is to achieve its vision of working together so our communities are the healthiest in America, patients need access to convenient, local care from providers they trust,” said MaineHealth CEO, Dr. Andy Mueller. “MaineHealth Urgent Care is designed to address the gap in the availability of health care provided in the Mount Washington Valley.”
Patients who arrive at MaineHealth Urgent Care in need of life-saving care can be treated at nearby MaineHealth Memorial Hospital, also located in North Conway, NH.
