Pen Bay Waldo Healthcare Foundation Honors President Mark Fourré, MD at Donor Event

May 23, 2023

Rockport & Belfast, ME – It was an afternoon of celebration – and a surprise tribute – at Pen Bay Medical Center Sunday.

Donors, board members and leaders from across MaineHealth gathered at the Charlotte and Christopher Beebe Health Center in Rockport Sunday, May 21, to celebrate the completion of a major fundraising campaign called The Campaign for Coastal Health.

They also celebrated Mark Fourré, MD, the outgoing president of PBMC and Waldo County General Hospital, who led the hospital through a period of significant growth and change during the past seven years. Fourré’s last day as president will be June 2.

The Campaign for Coastal Health, which funded construction of the Beebe Health Center and is supporting the Pen Bay Medical Center Emergency Department expansion project that is currently underway, began in 2018 and wrapped up last December, raising a total of $21.5 million to support the delivery of high-quality care in the Midcoast.

CHA Board Member and Development Committee Chair Ann Bresnahan and Regional Chief Medical Officer Mark Eggena, MD, PhD, served as co-chairs of the campaign. At the event, they shared a preview of the donor recognition wall, which names every person who gave to the campaign, regardless of the amount given. They also gave special thanks to major donors in attendance, including the Bresnahan family, Christopher and the late Charlotte Beebe, Linda and Diana Bean, CedarWorks, Allen Insurance and Financial, Viking Lumber and Camden National Bank. Dr. Eggena thanked artist Joyce Tennison, whose art is on display in the Beebe Health Center and in the Pen Bay Women’s Health practice. Bresnahan shared appreciation for all of the doctors and caregivers in the community.

CHA Board Chair Syrena Gatewood recognized Dr. Fourré for his “extraordinary commitment” to improving the health of the community and announced the new Mark Fourré Distinguished Service Award, which will celebrate care team members who exemplify excellence in patient-centered care. She pointed to Dr. Fourré’s leadership through the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as his successful efforts to increase the number of primary care providers at PBMC and Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast, as key contributions to the health and wellness of the community.

Andy Mueller, MD, chief executive officer for MaineHealth, thanked Dr. Fourré for his “incredible leadership” and for the impact he’s made across the MaineHealth system, including his work as an emergency department physician, teaching countless medical students and developing physician leaders throughout the organization.

Dr. Fourré expressed his appreciation for the honor, for all the donors who contributed to the Campaign for Coastal Health, and his confidence in the continued success of PBMC and WCGH.

“I’m incredibly excited about the future of Pen Bay Medical Center and Waldo County General Hospital because I know the strength of the team, and the strength of MaineHealth,” Dr. Fourré said.
