SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Maine Behavioral Healthcare’s Deaf Services program will present “The Journey as a Deaf Parent,” a free, one-hour webinar for parents and caregivers of children who are deaf or hard of hearing, parents who are deaf or hard of hearing, and providers who work with people who are deaf or hard-of-hearing, at 6:30 pm on Thursday, March 24.
Maine Behavioral Healthcare Deaf Services case managers Maria Hammond and Greg Scheuer will lead the Zoom-based presentation, which will be delivered in ASL with voice interpreters.
Kristine Gile, a licensed professional clinical counselor and program manager of Maine Behavioral Healthcare’s Deaf Services program, said the program will focus on the perspective of a deaf parent raising hearing children and ways to navigate diverse communication modalities used in the home.
“The program will be beneficial to anyone whose home life includes people who are deaf or hard of hearing,” Gile said. “We will explore the challenges deaf and hard-of-hearing parents face while raising children in the home, including bridging the different worlds deaf and hearing people experience.”
Participants are asked to register online in advance for program. For more information, please contact Gile at 207-619-5747 (VP/VRS).
