MMC will return to its pre-pandemic visitor policy, with some exceptions, effective Wednesday, June 23.
PORTLAND, Maine – As Maine’s vaccination rate continues to climb and cases of COVID-19 continue to drop, Maine Medical Center (MMC) is further easing restrictions on visitation for non-COVID patients and will resume full visitor hours from 8 am to 8 pm daily beginning Wednesday, June 23.
Restrictions that remain as part of the visitor policy include:
- Adult Inpatient units: Only one visitor will be allowed in patient rooms at a time for distancing reasons. There is no limit to the number of visitors a patient may have.
- Pediatrics and Obstetrics: There will be no limit to how many visitors a patient can have, though we will only allow two visitors at a time, provided space is sufficient to achieve compliance with social distancing. Please visit www.bbch.org/Patients-Visitors for information on visiting The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital and mmc.org/services/family-birth-center for more information on visiting the Family Birth Center.
- Emergency Department: One person is permitted to accompany adult patients and two parents or guardians may accompany pediatric patients, provided space is sufficient to achieve compliance with social distancing. Exceptions may be made for care plan discussions as arranged with the Care Team or for end of life.
- Ambulatory/Diagnostic Areas: Adult patients should arrange for drop-off and pick-up unless they need special assistance. Exceptions can be made in advance for patients who do not live locally. Pediatric patients may be accompanied by two parents/guardians, provided space is sufficient to achieve compliance with social distancing.
- COVID units: No visitors except for compassionate care, to be managed by Care Team.
- Maine Medical Partners practices: One visitor per patient.
- Exception: Visitation for end-of-life situations will be managed by the Care Team.
“Throughout this pandemic, Maine Medical Center has adjusted our visitor policy with the safety and well-being of our patients and care team in mind,” said MMC President Jeff Sanders. “While some restrictions are still necessary, extending our visitor hours can be done safely, and we know how important visitation is to our patients and families.”
MMC is continuing to require masking in its facilities and encourage social distancing and hand hygiene whenever possible.
