NORTH CONWAY, NH — Memorial Hospital began vaccinating front-line workers Thursday morning, just days after receiving its first distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.

Mary Jane Elwell, a licensed nursing assistant at Memorial, became the first care team member to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Emergency Department Clinical Manager Erika Roy, RN, administered the vaccine.

Thirty Memorial Hospital employees were scheduled to receive the first doses of a COVID-19 vaccine on Thursday, with an additional thirty on Friday.

Memorial received 60 doses late Tuesday afternoon from the New Hampshire Department of Health. They plan to vaccinate 60 employees Thursday and Friday. Additional vaccine is expected to arrive at Memorial in the coming weeks.

According to vaccination plans created by the New Hampshire Department of Health, front-line hospital workers, first responders, and older adults in nursing homes are among the first to be vaccinated.

Plans are in process for distributing further doses of COVID-19 vaccine to the public, a process that could last into the spring or summer of 2021.

Until a vaccine is available to everyone, it is important to continue masking, stay socially distant, and practice basic hand hygiene.
