Aiming for IRB submission for March meeting.

• Quaye, Marks—QI implementation of handoff checklist, do they reduce prescribing of opioids, benzos, muscle relaxants at discharge, collaboration with BIDMC and Yale.

  • CRYPTICS Trial Co-investigators: The CRYPTICS Trial recently met the prespecified enrollment of 150 patients for the interim analysis.  The DMC met and concluded that the cryopreserved platelet product met the criteria for non-inferiority as compared to the standard room temperature liquid stored platelets, and that there were no safety concerns.  The DMC has recommended stopping the trial early and the sponsor (Cellphire) has made the decision with the concurrence of the funder (US Army), to stop the study now and cease enrollment. Once all of the work has been done to close out the study, Cellphire will be presenting their licensure application to the FDA. This is my opportunity to thank you all for allowing us to approach your patients, not only for this study, but for other clinical trials, some of which get published in high impact journals and are practice changing.  Thank you to the anesthesia team who juggled their schedules and followed the CRYPTICS algorithm, and to the Blood Bank staff who did the work of storing and thawing the frozen platelets. All of you, as well as the office staff, valve clinic staff and the APPs make it possible for us to be high enrollers and contribute to the larger effort.
