ROCKPORT, December 9, 2020 – Reflecting its commitment to quality and accurate testing, the Vascular Lab at Pen Bay Medical Center (PBMC) has earned an additional three years of accreditation in the areas of extracranial cerebrovascular, peripheral venous and peripheral arterial testing.

The Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC), a non-profit organization that evaluates and accredits facilities that provide diagnostic imaging and intervention-based procedures, recently announced the reaccreditation. This widely respected seal of approval lets patients know they can rely on the PBMC Vascular Lab when looking for help them with diseases of the vascular system.

The kind of testing provided by the PBMC Vascular Lab can provide early detection of life threatening heart disorders, stroke and other diseases. Cardio vascular diseases are the number one cause of death in the U.S. On average, one American dies from cardiovascular disease every 39 seconds. Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the U.S.

Many factors contribute to an accurate vascular test, including the training and experience of the technician performing the procedures, the type of equipment used and the metrics used for analyzing results. The IAC accreditation confirms that the PBMC Vascular Lab excels in all these areas.

The Vascular Lab sees patients by referral from a primary care provider. For more information about vascular services at PBMC, call the Pen Bay Wound Healing Center at 207-301-5737 or go to www.mainehealth.org/pen-bay-medical-center/services/surgery.
