Andrew's Story

Andrew, a young father of two, was working in North Conway, New Hampshire, when he was struck by chest pain and rushed to MaineHealth Memorial Hospital. Even though he was only in his early 30s, he was facing a major heart attack. His doctors transferred him to MaineHealth Maine Medical Center, where they discovered his left main coronary artery was completely blocked. The skilled medical teams at both hospitals gave Andrew a second chance, and now he can embrace every moment with his family.

A Community Story: Keeping Students Healthy and In School

MaineHealth School Based Health Centers (SBHCs) in Lincoln County are dedicated to keeping students healthy and in school so parents can continue working with peace of mind. Local SBHCs are staffed by MaineHealth care team members, who evaluate and treat common medical needs such as sore throats, minor injuries, and annual check-ups right in school — helping students feel their best every day.

Mariann’s Story

After a painful hip collapse, Mariann’s life was put on hold. MaineHealth’s expert orthopedic team provided the patient-focused care she needed. Advanced treatments restored her mobility and confidence, helping her to live fully again and return to the activities she loves.

Milo's Story

Building confidence and a positive relationship with health in childhood has been shown to help reduce the risk of serious conditions like diabetes and cardiovascular disease later on.

Through the Bright Bodies program at MaineHealth, children like Milo gain more than nutrition guidance and physical activity. They build self esteem and lifelong skills that support healthier bodies and minds all in a supportive, community based environment. Bright Bodies is offered at no cost to qualifying families, because responsible care means removing barriers and investing in prevention long before illness begins.

"We have better outcomes than the majority of hospitals in the country. It speaks to the fact that you can have excellent outcomes even if you are a relatively small hospital if you put the resources, the training and the dedication into the program — like MaineHealth has done with the pediatric congenital heart program."

– Mary Ottolini, MD, The George W. Hallett, MD Chair of Pediatrics
