Anu K Makynen, PhD

Anu K Makynen

I have over 20 years of experience providing psychological services to adults of all ages. For the past decade, I have especially enjoyed working in the Department of Psychiatry at MMC, specializing in geriatric psychology. I earned my Ph.D in Clinical Psychology at Columbia University with a concentration in psychodynamically oriented psychotherapy. Incorporating additional training in other treatment models (including cognitive behavioral and mindfulness), my approach is eclectic with the goal of tailoring treatment to meet the needs of each person in my care. In my practice I work with older adults experiencing a wide range of therapeutic concerns, including issues with anxiety, depression, grief, loss, aging, medical illness, caregiver stress, and relationships. Fundamental to this work is the development of a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship which I strive to foster through empathic, compassionate, and respectful communication.
