Adam C Winters

Adam C. Winters, MD is a transplant hepatologist practicing with MaineHealth in Portland and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. He earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College. A New York native, he went on to complete an internal medicine residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He then completed his gastroenterology fellowship at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine followed by an advanced transplant hepatology fellowship back at Mount Sinai, where he served as Chief Fellow. Before moving to Maine, Dr. Winters was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai – one of the highest volume liver transplantation centers in the country. 

Dr. Winters is active in academic hepatology, with numerous peer-reviewed publications on topics including alcohol-associated liver disease, alcohol-associated hepatitis and liver transplantation, and the transplant hepatology workforce and fellowship pipeline. He has a strong interest in medical education and career development – he is one of the founders of the “Liver Fellow Network”, an online medical education platform for trainees interested in liver disease.

Dr. Winters strives to create a personalized treatment plan for each patient that maximizes wellness and quality of life, while leveraging the latest research and therapeutic breakthroughs in liver disease.
