Curriculum | Advanced Practice Provider - Critical Care Residency

Our curriculum is organized in a 4 week block scheduling format.

There are four core rotations:

  • Critical Care Medicine
  • Neurocritical Care
  • Surgical Critical Care
  • Cardiovascular Critical Care

Each core rotation will be for a minimum of eight weeks. 

All rotations will include:

  • Formal didactics
  • Ultrasound training
  • Simulation
  • Introductions to research and formal evaluations
  • Multiple, inter-professional learning experiences with physician residents and fellows

There are also opportunities for elective rotations, such as infectious disease or palliative care.

The curriculum is comprehensive and covers a breadth of adult critical care. Core topics include:

  • Neurological emergencies
  • Neuro ICU pathophysiology and management
  • Trauma assessment and resuscitation
  • Post-operative complications
  • Acute alcohol withdrawal
  • Sedation and analgesia
  • Respiratory failure
  • Shock
  • Acute coronary syndrome
  • Pulmonary artery catheter waveforms and interpretation
  • Acute kidney injury
  • Electrolyte disturbances
  • Toxidromes and overdoses
  • Infectious disease and antibiotic stewardship
  • Cirrhosis and acute liver injury
  • Endocrine disease and emergencies
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • ATLS
  • ENLS
  • Arterial line
  • Central line
  • Lumbar puncture
  • Chest tube placement
  • Point of Care Ultrasound
  • Gym membership
  • Opportunities for sponsored wellness activities
  • Quarterly wellness self-assessments with mentorship program

Hannaford Center for Safety, Innovation & Simulation

The Hannaford Center for Safety, Innovation and Simulation at MHMMC offers high-tech and realistic simulation, allowing medical students, residents, and medical staff to learn new techniques and enhance their skills through repeated practice and review.
