Lung Cancer Tests

There are a variety of tests a doctor may order to see if you have lung cancer. The tests look for cancer cells in your lungs. They help confirm a diagnosis and check for other lung conditions. Tests can include:

  • X-Rays: Can show a mass or growth in your lungs.
  • CT Scans: Pick up small lesions that an X-ray might miss.
  • Sputum cytology: If you have a productive cough, looking at the sputum you bring up can show cancer cells, when viewed under a microscope.
  • Biopsy: Biopsy: Taking a tissue sample can show cells that are not normal. Biopsy can include a bronchoscopy.

 Biopsy can include a bronchoscopy.

What is an LDCT?

An LDCT is a lung cancer scan that screens older, healthy people who have a lengthy history of smoking cigarettes.
