Richard E Royal
Dr. Royal joined us from the M D Anderson Cancer Center, where he was a tenured Professor in Surgery. Prior to that, he was a Senior Investigator at the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Royal received his medical degree from Oregon Health Sciences University, School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Maryland. He went on to complete several fellowships including two fellowships in Surgical Oncology, at the MD Anderson Cancer Center and the National Cancer Institute. His clinical interests include the care of patients with melanoma and skin cancers, as well as patients with rare GI tumors including peritoneal disease. He is an expert in the delivery of regional therapy for cancer including limb perfusion, liver perfusion and HIPEC. He has extensive research in the immunotherapy of melanoma and pancreas cancer and has been involved in promoting the interdisciplinary care of patients at a national level. He is the recipient of several awards for patient care, including MD Anderson’s Top Performer Award 2017-2019, Patients Choice Award 2012-2018, and the Most Compassionate Doctor Award 2012-13, 2015, 2017-18.
