Laurie L Han

An internist since 1999, I left primary care to specialize in medical weight loss in 2015. I have yet to meet a patient in my weight loss practice that isn’t over-scheduled. Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight isn’t simply a matter of “eat less and move more”. Whether it is long hours at work, family obligations, a second job, night school, or volunteering in the community, the people I meet people struggle to find time for exercise, adequate sleep, or meal preparation. A comprehensive weight loss plan encompasses nutrition, physical activity, sleep, good habits, and (when appropriate) medication and weight-loss surgery, to improve health, and address the complex hormonal derangements that encourage weight gain. We have better tools now than ever before, in the form of medication and surgery, to help patients improve their health. Since excess weight is associated with many chronic health conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, osteoarthritis and depression, I believe what I do now is truly the best preventative care.
