I chose to become a doctor for the intellectual challenge and the opportunity to help people in a practical way every day. Hospital medicine continues to offer something new to learn both from advances in medicine and from my patients. I continue to feel privileged to help patients and families understand their health and assist them in making the best decisions for testing and treatment after considering the risks and benefits in the context of their own values. Outside the hospital, I enjoy spending time in the Maine outdoors with my family and dogs.
