Where to go for behavioral health care
It can be difficult to know how to find the right behavioral health care. MaineHealth is here to guide you.
Start with your primary care provider
Primary care is a good starting point if you have questions or concerns about emotional and mental health, ongoing behavioral health conditions, substance use, medicine refills or referrals to specialty care. Many MaineHealth primary care practices have a behavioral health clinician on site. Your provider can treat many conditions, refill medicines and provide referrals if you need it.
Visit a behavioral health practice
Behavioral health practices can help with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), family concerns, substance use disorders and many other mental health conditions. MaineHealth community practices offer counseling, psychiatric care and specialized services close to home.
Ask about specialized care
Specialized care may be right for people with autism and other developmental disorders, substance use disorders or significant pediatric behavioral health concerns. Our experienced teams provide care designed around your specific needs.
Get emergency or crisis care
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. If you’re experiencing a behavioral health crisis, including thoughts of suicide, call or text 988.
