Maine Medical Center Welcomes Maine Track Class of 2023

July 26, 2019

Maine Medical Center welcomed the 40 members of the Tufts School of Medicine – Maine Medical Center Maine Track Class of 2023 at the 11th annual McKusick Lecture and Incoming Class Reception on Thursday, July 25.

Edison T. Liu, MD, President and CEO at The Jackson Laboratory, was the keynote speaker. His lecture, entitled, “Genomics Futures for the New Clinician,” captured some of the latest research into personalized medicine through the study of the human genome.

“Change is the only thing that’s constant in medicine,” Dr. Liu said. “You might as well embrace it.”

This year’s class is the first to enter the Maine Track program under a new curriculum that gives students greater exposure to the clinical environment here in Maine. In the past, Maine Track students spent most of their first two years studying at the Tufts School of Medicine in Boston. Starting with this class, Maine Track students will spend their entire second year of medical school at MMC, and their third and fourth years at locations throughout Maine.

The goal of Maine Track is to encourage students to consider a medical career in Maine by offering generous scholarships and by giving students the opportunity to learn in clinical settings in communities throughout the state.
