Rob Gronkowski, Gronkowski family return to The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital to present $25K donation
June 12, 2019
PORTLAND, Maine – Retired New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski and his family presented Maine Medical Center Chief Operating Officer Jennifer McCarthy with a check for $25,000 to The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center (BBCH) Wednesday afternoon. The money was raised through a raffle of Super Bowl tickets by the Gronk Nation Youth Foundation, The Light Foundation and the Davio’s Restaurant group.
This is the second year in a row that the Gronkowski family has paid BBCH a visit after raising money for Maine’s only children’s hospital. This year’s raffle also benefitted Boston Children’s Hospital, The Greater Boston Food Bank and The Light Foundation. Gronk visited with children in their rooms, bringing them cookies shaped like Pats jerseys that were made by the Rockport bakery LAUGH Loud SMILE Big. He also posed for photos, did a little dancing and showed off his famous “Gronk spike.”
“It’s so much fun to spend time with the kids and give them a reason to smile,” Gronkowski said. “Knowing that I made a difference playing the game I love is great.”
The money from this donation will be used to purchase specialized equipment for the hospital as well as health and wellness programs aimed at children. It also will support the Child Life program, which aims to provide fun distractions to young patients.
“We are very grateful for this generous donation,” said MMC Chief Operating Officer Jennifer McCarthy. “Gronk played the game with heart, and we love having his positive presence here at BBCH.”
Photos and video of the visit can be found here.
