Memorial Hospital Volunteers’ Suncatcher Gift Shop Raises Funds for Hospital Needs

August 01, 2017

NORTH CONWAY, NH – Rehabilitation Services clinical supervisor Michelle Mattei noticed some walkers her therapists use were in need of some attention. Like many pieces of medical equipment, the walkers get a lot of use, wear out or go missing. So Michelle turned to a resource that often comes to the rescue – the hospital’s 80+ volunteers who help raise funds and run its Suncatcher Gift Shop. Many people in the community who frequent the shop may not realize that the shop is 100% volunteer run and 100% of the shop’s net proceeds are donated back to Memorial to be used entirely for local support such as the walkers.

Volunteer Coordinator Peter Waugh shared, “The volunteers were very happy to assist the Rehabilitation Services Department with recent purchase of 10 new walkers for their department. This will enable them to provide a better level of care and service to their patients.”

The money used to purchase the walkers are a direct result of the sales at the Suncatcher Gift Shop. All of the proceeds from the Shop are used to support patient care, programs, and scholarships at Memorial Hospital. Net proceeds from the Shop have been used in support of a variety of hospital needs, ranging from wheelchairs, wireless phone charging stations, upgrades to the oncology and infusion practice, The "Let's Go!" childhood health and wellness program, New Life Prenatal Clinic, baby monitors and the "Super Sibling: Preparing Children for a New Baby" in the hospital’s Family Birthing Center.

Waugh continued, “Stop by and see all of the wonderful items that are waiting for you to purchase. Shop hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30am - 4:00pm. Please be sure to include the Suncatcher Gift Shop in your list of places to shop for your family and friends. By doing so, your dollars stay locally and will be helping the dedicated volunteers support the community and the hospital.” The Shop is located in the Main Lobby at the hospital.

The Gift Shop is one of many areas within the hospital where community members can volunteer. Memorial Hospital has a dedicated team of volunteers who donate thousands of hours and have raised thousands of dollars to support the health care needs of the Mt. Washington Valley. As an indispensable part of the hospital team, they are dedicated to support the hospital and the health care services it provides by volunteering their time and talents.
