Spring Harbor Academy

Spring Harbor Academy is a private school for children and adolescents who have been admitted to the developmental disorders program at Spring Harbor Hospital. Located within the hospital, the academy runs 32 hours each week, Monday - Friday, all year long.

The academy’s goal is to ensure each student’s successful transition back to the community after leaving the hospital. We work closely with each child’s home school to make sure that the curriculum aligns with their individualized education program (IEP). All plans are fully documented. Academic instruction is coupled with evidence-based strategies to help students:

  • Learn coping skills
  • Build independence
  • Improve emotional and behavioral regulation

  • Sessions made up of obstacle courses to work on balance

  • Trying different seats to help them use upright posture while working at a desk
