Curious about a diagnosis?

Our convenient service directory can provide you with the information you need to better understand a mental health disorder.

Some of the things that can signal your need for an acute level of care can include overwhelming feelings of depression or fear, and you may be to the point of hurting yourself or others. Here are some questions you can ask yourself or family member:

Does your depression or anxiety prevent you from functioning at home, work or school?

Are you unable to sleep, eat or take care of personal hygiene because your stress level is high?

Is your alcohol, drug or medication use out of control?

Are you having hallucinations or do you think people are plotting against or trying to hurt you?

Are you suicidal?

Are others telling you that they are scared or concerned for you?

If you are in crisis or suicidal, please call the Maine Crisis Hotline at 1-888-568-1112.

Spring Harbor Hospital accepts referrals from psychiatrists, crisis teams and/or emergency rooms. Providers and emergency rooms can call our admission number (866-857-6644 or 207-761-6644) to make a referral. Please go to your nearest emergency room if you are in crisis, or call the Maine Crisis Hotline at 888-568-1112.

Individuals and families of children and adolescents in psychiatric crisis can turn to the Maine Medical Center Emergency Department for expert intervention services, resolution, and discharge to the home or to an appropriate provider of psychiatric care. The department functions in close coordination with Spring Harbor Hospital and multiple community agencies to avert hospitalization whenever possible. For more information, please call 866-857-6644 (toll-free), extension 1.
All of our inpatient care units have a lead psychiatrist as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team to ensure optimal medical care for every patient. The team includes talented psychologists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, care coordinators, and psychiatric technicians. Psychologists provide services at our inpatient and outpatient care settings with neurological and behavioral assessments.

The multidisciplinary team evaluates each patient and carefully considers the best treatment to achieve patient safety, clinical improvement, and ultimately success in the community after leaving the hospital. We offer medication-based pharmacologic interventions and other therapeutic modalities including, but not limited to, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, Substance Use, and Stress Reduction through Spirituality or Yoga.
