MaineHealth Named One of America's Best Large Employers by Forbes

February 15, 2022

PORTLAND, Maine – Forbes has named MaineHealth one of America’s Best Large Employers in 2022.

Forbes partnered with independent research firm Statista to survey 60,000 people working for businesses across all sectors with at least 1,000 employees. Survey respondents were asked to rate how likely they were to recommend their employer to friends and family, as well as other factors such as compensation, working conditions, reputation and development opportunities.

The final list ranks the 500 large (5,000+) and midsize (1,000-5,000) employers that received the most recommendations.

MaineHealth neared the top of the list at #13, and was one of only three large health systems in New England to be named, alongside Yale New Haven and Massachusetts General Hospital.

Scott Ballard, Chief People Officer at MaineHealth, stated, “We’re thrilled to receive this recognition by Forbes and the survey participants who rated us so highly. Being named to a best employer list begins with hiring the best people. Our 22,000 care team members are incredibly talented, compassionate and dedicated, and supporting them is fundamental to our vision of working together so our communities are the healthiest in America.”

In 2021, MaineHealth invested more than $103 million in compensation increases for employees, in addition to providing generous benefits, PTO and work-life programs.

“Amid the many challenges posed by the pandemic over the past two years, MaineHealth care team members have remained true to our values – patient-centered, professional and kind,” said CEO Andy Mueller, MD. “We recognize and value them and express our deepest gratitude for the exceptional care they provide every day.”
