Something’s Fishy at BBCH (And We’re OK with That)!

June 11, 2018

bbch fish tank 2018
The fish are back! The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital (BBCH) has renovated its fish tank, and the new and improved version was unveiled on June 7 with a fish party and naming ceremony in the BBCH atrium.

Child Life Specialist Bethany Kay introduced Rick Oellers from New England Aquarium Services, who showed off the dozen new fish and asked the children to name each one. Patients who needed to stay in their rooms were able to take part in the fun, too, thanks to BBCH’s new closed circuit TV system. Those children called their suggestions in from their rooms. The fish were named Blizzard, Mystic, Streaker, Alvin, Simon, Theodore, Radar, Mona Lisa, Pablo, Olaf, Gumball and Cheese Ice Cream.

Once the naming was complete, everyone who participated got Goldfish crackers and cupcakes that were decorated like fish from the Laugh Loud Smile Big bakery in Rockport!

New England Aquarium Services is planning to create some activities for patients that will give them even more reasons to interact with the fish, and the Child Life staff has some fishy crafts planned, too.
